Silver Birch 7-9 years old

Our Silver Birch group is a combined age group which consists of a class 2/3 Waldorf based curriculum , this is where we see the introduction of fables and legends of the saint stories, as well as recognising the developmental stage of the 8/9 year old child. Using a Waldorf based foundation means the group tutor is able to meet the changing needs of the eight to nine-year-old child who is seen as ‘Crossing the Rubicon’ or going through an important transitional stage on their path towards adulthood.From around the age of nine, a child becomes aware of him or herself as a separate identity and the Waldorf curriculum recognises this delicate and sensitive stage and provides subject matter that is supportive, encouraging, reassuring and stimulating. Through the epic Old Testament stories such as the Creation; the Fall of Man and the Expulsion from Paradise, the concept of separation is explored to help the children put their inner emotional lives into perspective.​Additionally, the tutor guides us through various lessons such as english and numeracy, and we also welcome other skilled facilitators for captivating handcraft, eurythmy and music.​
